The paper dwells on modern ideas of biofilm structure and mechanisms of its formation. Biofilm is a special form of microflora organization in conditionally pathogenic and pathogenic microorganisms involved in emergence and development of diseases of both infectious and somatic etiology. Taking the biofilm-forming activity of Staphylococcus aureus as an example, the phenomenon of microorganisms tolerance mediated by SasG-protein and the ability of microorganisms to form persister cell populations is considered.
